HEREDITY is the Spring/Summer womenswear collection that will be debuted at Hazel & Rose; a boutique located in Minneapolis that retails women's clothing, accessories, & skincare. They supply fair trade, sustainable, and ethical fashion featuring independent designers, brands, & organic fabrics.

“For my first womenswear-only collection, the focal point came from both a personal and a biological direction. First and foremost, I was taught how to sew by my mother. This collection is entitled HEREDITY, as my trade was passed down to me from my matriarch, as well as the many other genetic characteristics between a mother and son.

I worked with 2 models, whom I visualized to be siblings. Their garments influence specific characteristics developed into the garments worn by the other, as if they’re genetically related. Similar, yet different. The long black dress in the collection has two slits on the front and the back, resembling strands of DNA. This represents the connection between the siblings, the garments, and human beings.

DNA is the building block to protein, protein creates cells and connected cells create muscle tissue. I developed a sweater vest with paneling that replicates the female muscle structure using ribbed fabric; the ribbing in the fabric resembles human tissue.

All of this relates back to the conceptual foundation of the brand, which is rooted in human science. There’s a reason why scientists and engineers use biomimicry as a catalyst; nature is the greatest designer that has ever been.
